[re]design was set up in 2004 as a network of “designers who don’t want to create landfill”. Headed by Sarah Johnson and Jason Allcorn, [re]design’s mission is to “redesign design” – to get designers incorporating sustainability into their work and to get the public buying it. They do this by organising events, seminars, workshops and exhibitions – plus, they have their own publications and tools for designers.
[re]design continues to expand its influence and reach more mainstream audiences, spreading the word that design can be both good and gorgeous. I couldn’t agree more. They are inspiring, innovative and incessant. Check out their website to see what they’ve been up to and what they’re planning. This is one to watch in the lead up to the London Design Festival (17 – 25 September 2011) if you want to see the best of sustainable design.
Keep your eyes open for their 'chalkyvan' - a custom campervan upon which you can express yourself through the medium of chalk.
